Terry Patterson, Managing Director.

TERRY PATTERSON, MANAGING DIRECTOR
Terry Patterson, Managing Director of IAS New Zealand, through his personal experience of transformational leadership, is ideally positioned to deliver IAS leadership and organisational development programmes. He took over the IAS New Zealand operations from Brian Martin in April 2004 after 14 years in senior public sector roles and specialises in strategic planning, performance reporting and talent management. In addition, he coaches a wide variety of staff at senior levels in the public and private sectors.

As Chief Executive of Audit New Zealand, (the Auditor-General's commercial business unit), from 1998 to 2004, Terry successfully led the organisation through a period of rapid change supported by a wide range of IAS services. In recognition of the achievements made by Audit New Zealand they were awarded Accounting Employer of the Year in 2003 and an HRINZ Talent Management Award in 2004.

Prior to joining Audit New Zealand, Terry worked for Capital Coast Health, one of New Zealand's largest tertiary public health services, where he held the positions of Chief Financial Officer from 1990 to 1992 and General Manager, Health Services from 1993 to 1997. In 2002, as the recipient of a NZ Public Service study fellowship, Terry completed the month long senior executive program at the London Business School.

Terry's qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration & Master of Business Administration from Wellington's Victoria University. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand, the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand and the American Society for Training and Development, attending their annual congress in Atlanta in 2007 completing certification in Facilitating Organisational Change. He also attended the International Coach Federation Congress in Melbourne in October 2007. In addition Terry is the chair of the Advisory Committee for the Auckland University of Technology's Business Faculty.

Outside of work, Terry is the Chairperson of the J Campbell Barrett Wellington Anaesthesia Trust and has been extensively involved with Land Search and Rescue at a local and national level. His roles have included responsibility for volunteer recruitment and training, liaison with the Police and he was Chief Advisor to the Wellington Police District from 1998 to 2004. In June 2005 Terry received the New Zealand Land Search and Rescue Award for his contribution to Land SAR over the past 20 years.

Terry is a keen mountain runner and an active multi-sport competitor having completed five Coast to Coast's and the Tararua Mountain Race on all 20 occasions.

 

Paul Diver, Senior Associate.

PAUL DIVER, SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Paul Diver is IAS New Zealand's leading transformational facilitator and has developed a reputation as an outstanding facilitator of the IAS Proteus Visionary Leadership Programme. He also coaches a wide range of senior executives in the public and private sectors.

Paul joined IAS in 1993 following his role as National Director of Human Resources for NZ Breweries Ltd. It was in this role that he first worked with IAS to facilitate a major restructuring inside the company. This change lead to a focus on regional brand strengths and aligning the organisation behind a market and customer orientated strategy. Following his participation in the IAS Genesis Programme, Paul discovered that his vision and that of IAS New Zealand were aligned and a very successful partnership developed.

Paul established his employment relations consultancy in 1992 and, along with 5 associates, provides strategic ER advice, dispute resolution and advocacy for a wide range of organisations.

Through IAS Paul has worked with a wide range of companies including ACC, Adis International, Audit New Zealand, Hirepool, Housing New Zealand, Leo Burnett - Japan " Malaysia, Meridian Energy, NZ Customs Service, New Zealand Post, NZ Qualifications Authority, SPARC and Te PuniKokiri.

Paul's qualifications include a Bachelor of Law from the University of Canterbury and he was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1979. In addition, Paul was an Advocate for the NZ Employers Federation and is an Associate of the Arbitrators' and Mediators Institute of New Zealand. In August 2008 he completed accreditation with TMS New Zealand in a range of organisational behaviour tools.

 

Peter Sammons , Associate.

PETER SAMMONS, ASSOCIATE
Peter Sammons has over 20 years' organisational development and training experience, and has been working with IAS New Zealand since 1996. He has facilitated conflict management, leadership development, team-work, self development, stress management programmes and business planning across an extensive range of industries and public services. Peter also coaches a wide number of people in both the public and private sector and facilitates our ASPIRE Emerging Leaders Programme.

Peter has worked with a variety of public and private sector organisations including Audit New Zealand, Hirepool, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, New Zealand Customs, New Zealand Post, Norske Skog (Tasman Paper), Fuji-Xerox Ltd, Villa Maria Wines, Auckland District Law Society, New Zealand Customs Service, New Zealand Institute of Management, New Zealand Transport Agency, Port of Tauranga, Auckland City Council, Walt Disney Japan, Bahrain Petroleum Company and Bahrain Ministry of Works and Housing.

Peter completed his Bachelor of Business Psychology at Massey University in June 2007, has been a member of the NZ Institute of Management's facilitation team since 1995 and is an NZQA qualified assessor for them. In May 2007 he completed accreditation with TMS New Zealand in a range of organisational behaviour tools and attended the ICF Coaching Congress in Melbourne in October 2007.

Outside of work Peter enjoys diving, mountain biking and sailing and is a Restorative Justice Facilitator for the Department of Corrections.

 

Leslie Hamilton , Associate.

LESLIE HAMILTON, ASSOCIATE
Leslie Hamilton moved to New Zealand with her family in 1996 for a life style change and has been working with IAS New Zealand since 1997. She is an executive leadership coach and facilitator with over 20 years' experience both in New Zealand and internationally.

Leslie customises solutions for leaders or team members to transform opportunities into accomplishments. Working with Leslie enables clients to raise their individual performance which in turn enhances the effectiveness of their teams and the results created by their organisation.

Leslie has worked with a wide range of companies, including AUT, Fisher &Paykel Healthcare, New Zealand Post, 4i's Communication, Fonterra, Nelson City Council, SPARC and GSK (UK), developing solutions to improve leadership, communication and organisational development and performance.

Leslie's qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from Lake Forest College, a Masters in Education from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Business from the University of Wisconsin. She is also a Master Practitioner of Neuro-linguistic Programming and a graduate of Coach University. She is active in professional organisations and is a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Coaching in Organisations.

In addition Leslie was also the principle organiser and Chairperson for the International Coach Federation Congress in Melbourne in October 2007.

In March 2010 Leslie completed accreditation with Team Management Solutions in a variety of organisational development tools.

 

Paul Millin, Associate.

PAUL MILLIN, ASSOCIATE
Paul Millin is currently a Director of a consultancy firm specialising in people development and has recently joined the IAS New Zealand facilitation team.

With over 25 years experience in specialist and senior management roles in the private and public sectors, Paul's recent clients include Meridian Energy, Eyede International, ProActive Rehab, R+R Advertising, Nelson City Council, New Zealand Qualifications Authority, SPARC, and has most recently worked for NZ Post and Terralink NZ Ltd.

In his roles at NZ Post he demonstrated leadership and results drive through coaching, development planning and clear expectation setting, assessing the Leadership Capability of 250 PostShop Managers and Franchisees by designing and managing an Assessment Centre Programme that delivered feedback, coaching and a working development plan to all participants.

Paul took part in IAS's Leaders Edge Programme in 2002, a leadership programme specifically designed for NZ Post's emerging leaders. And has since realised his vision is closely aligned with IAS New Zealand.

In 2005 Paul completed a NZQA approved Level 2 immersion course in Te Reo Māori at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi and attending noho Marae and cultural events.

Also in 2005 Paul became accredited in Psychometric Test Administration, Interpretation, Feedback and Reporting for Graduate Reasoning Test (Psytech), 15FQ+ Personality Profile (Psytech), Sales Preference Indicator (Psytech),International and Emotional Intelligence Assessment (Genos).

In March 2010 Paul completed accreditation with Team Management Solutions in a range of organisational development tools. Paul is a keen sportsman enjoying cycling and is vice president of the Port Nicholson Poneke Cycling club and an active race referee, and was the Assistant coach for the Great Britain National Women's Junior Rowing Squad.

 

Gemma Robinson, Logistics Coordinator.

GEMMA ROBINSON, LOGISTICS COORDINATOR
Gemma Robinson joined the team at IAS New Zealand in July 2007, and is based in our Wellington office, where she works alongside Terry Patterson as an Executive Assistant and Office Manager assisting with client liaison, logistics and programme coordination.

Gemma has over 10 years experience in the hospitality industry, some of her most recent roles include, Conference and Events Manager and Group Manager at Wellingtons Museum Hotel and Apartments, and Maitre de at award winning Café Bastille.

Gemma has a strong client focus and uses this skill to coordinate our workshops and coaching sessions. Gemma assists Facilitator Peter Sammons at each of the ASPIRE Emerging Leaders Programme workshops and is the contact point for our ASPIRE participants. Gemma has begun her Bachelor of Design in Advertising and Marketing at Massey University, and outside of work enjoys visiting exhibitions, spending time with family, sampling Wellingtons many cafés and walking her two dogs.

 

Brian Martin Fnzim, Founder.

BRIAN MARTIN FNZIM, FOUNDER
Brian Martin founded IAS New Zealand in January 1989, following a long and highly successful career as a senior executive and CEO in New Zealand and the Asia Pacific Region. Brian was the founding Managing Director of Levi Strauss (New Zealand) Ltd before being appointed their Asia Area Chief Executive, based in Hong Kong, charged with leading a business turn-around. He then took on the challenge as CEO of the struggling Triumph International (Japan) Ltd and completed a second successful business turn-around. Triumph, a German multinational corporation, is the world's largest women's lingerie company.

Brian established IAS to be the "catalyst for individuals and organisations to create outstanding results" through transformational leadership programmes that take organisations to new levels of performance and staff satisfaction. IAS was founded on the philosophy of "a world of people being successful".

Brian is the Chairman and CEO of IAS Learning Group Ltd, ( IAS New Zealand's sister company), and works with a wide range of organisations in Australia, Japan, Malaysia and China providing consulting, facilitation, strategic alignment and coaching services. He is the Chairman of the Japan - New Zealand Business Council, a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management and a member of the Advisory Committee for the Auckland University of Technology's Business Faculty. Brian is also a senior member of the American Society of Training and Development and in 1998 was selected as an honoured member of the International Who's Who of Professionals.

Brian continues to provide coaching, mentoring and facilitation for clients when he is home and remains a director of IAS New Zealand .
